A new release is upon us and we have some information to convey. CHIVES are to release DADS, and are celebrating at Cornelia St Cafe in NYC on August 22.
CHIVES, the power trio of Steven Lugerner, Matt Wohl, and Max Jaffe, have a new LP which they call DADS. If you are not familiar, the album cover is a continuation from their previous release ‘For Brian Wilson’. You know I love a good concept, and this is no exception. ‘For Brian Wilson’ was CHIVES’ dedication to the SF Giants pitcher, not the Beach Boy. And DADS is too a dedication. The members of CHIVES are all San Francisco natives (Burlingame, to be clear), all grew up together, played music together, have Jewish fathers and Australian (Wohl), Mexican (Lugerner), and Korean (Jaffe) mothers. This record is a continuation of their personal narrative, with emphasis on origin.
Matt Wohl explains:
“Dads is much deeper than a flat dedication to our fathers, this record pays respect to the greater common narrative that all three of our fathers share. The collective sound of this trio is rooted beyond our years of collaboration; it actually began with our father’s love and dedication to self-expression. Their fearlessness has liberated our intentions, language, compositional methods and most importantly, it has given us a great friendship. Our relationship, and this music, continues to evolve through circumstance, distance and intention, but will always be grounded in our love of all things baseball, burritos and Burlingame….”
Who can argue with that?! Even I am considering getting a “Fear The Beard” tattoo!
